I just had lunch with a male colleague who claims to be a conservative feminist. Without getting too specific, I have to say that I was astounded at this man's views on feminism, homosexuality, and liberalism. I wasn't even sure people were allowed to have those sorts of medieval views anymore. And I further don't think he understands what a feminist is. Maybe he meant "misogynist" instead but just had a brain fart. Wow. Just wow.
We are NOT in the bay area anymore, folks. Wow.

No, you're not. Not everybody is that bad, though. On my every day life, I've encountered from rabid Tea Partiers to radical feminists (Tea Partiers are more usual to come across, though). I would say most people are fairly middle of the road and apolitical.
I work at a religious SLAC in your region (though not your State). My department is pretty liberal. Institution-wise, the theology department is probably the most progressive, and the philosophy department the most conservative. Both are very powerful within the institution, so that makes for interesting internal political dynamics.
I am curious, though: did you ask your male colleague in what way was he a feminist?
Lemme guess. He *has* a wife and therefore, ***LOOOOOVVVEES*** women. amirite?
He has no problems hiring women, amirite? yannow, to work/wipe his ass FOR him, doing his paperwork and crap? right, RIGHT?
He likes *having* women around, to pretty up the place like houseplants?
Yeah, d00d's feminist alright. He owns a pony, a pink castle, and lives on a rainbow made of cotton candy. Avoid the phucker as much as possible. Welcome to the Patriarchy. In some places, it greets you at the door, quite rudely. In others, it lurks. Either way, massive suckage.

Hey, now--no insulting the Middle Ages by associating "medieval" with "jacka$$ behavior"! Just a friendly objection on behalf of your medievalist readers.
What *exactly* is a conservative feminist?
