A no update update

I emailed the search chair from the Indiana school today to see if there were any movement on the job. She emailed me back about a half hour later to say that negotiations are ongoing and that she hoped to have some answers next week. So I'm still waiting.

Part of me is pretty ambivalent about this job. Not only is the dragging out of the decision wearing me down, but the fact that I've been so enchanted with my creative work lately has also caused a re-examination of what really makes me happy. Teaching, like most jobs, has its benefits and drawbacks. Writing -- at this point -- doesn't pay. It makes me happier than anything else, but it's also the most unlikely way to make a living out of all the possibilities I can think of.

Anyway. I will keep my options open. In the meantime, we're still in limbo.
